Adding your own Domain

Post by webtron » Mon Apr 05, 2010 4:39 pm

Hello,

My office blocks sipsorcery.com but when I try redirecting it using my own domain, it works.

When I create a SIP user in SS, I see an option 'Domain' which by default has sipsorcery.com.

How do I add my own domain? I can change the DNS settings from my cpanel.

Thanks alot

The facility to add custom domains to the sipsorcery.com service is not supported at the moment. You could try using one of the IP addresses instead of sipsorcery.com: 174.129.236.7 or 174.129.234.254.

Hey Aaron,

Thank you for replying to my post.

I tried using the IP Address, but they are blocking those IP addresses too. Its not my office firewall, its the board internet that blocks it. So my ISP is blocking this due to board policies.

I will try testing this and see if it works, I have a domain and will see what happens if I try creating a redirect for example sip.xyz.com that will point to 174.129.236.7 or 174.129.234.254.

Just wondering if your server allows that or not.

Thanks

To get that approach to work you'll need to use sipsorcery.com as your SIP server address and then use your own domain name as the outbound proxy. The domain name in the URI of a SIP request is matched by the sipsorcery servers so it must be one that it recognises as belonging to it. By using an outbound proxy you can leave the domain as sipsorcery.com but specify a host that the SIP device should send through, in this case they will be the same, but it will let you test out your theory.

Aaron

Any chance of adding our own domain to sipsorcery as a feature so our sip address can be the same as our email address.

example
Email: bob@mydomain.com
VoIP: bob@mydomain.com

I may be able to something with adding custom domains but there will be a caveat with regards to the levels of traffic that would be allowed. Send the request in an email to admin@sipsorcery.com.

I'd love to be able to add my own domain as well (coming over from IPtel.org for the extra routing features!)... Is this something that can be user-provisioned now, or do we still need to send out an email request? Thanks all!

Setting-up your own domain on sipsorcery works well.

Add this "SRV record" to your domain "mydomain.com"
_sip._tcp.mydomain.com. 43200 IN SRV 0 10 5060 sipsorcery.com.
_sip._udp.mydomain.com. 43200 IN SRV 0 10 5060 sipsorcery.com.
_sips._tcp.mydomain.com. 43200 IN SRV 0 10 5061 sipsorcery.com.

Once setup by Aaron, you can add a user account on your domain. user@mydomain.com
