connection to gmail voice chat

Post by satphoneguy » Wed Aug 25, 2010 4:49 pm

google voice has now been integrated in gtalk/gmail voice chat. a gtalk(jabber/jingle) client capability would be a good alternative to the current GV callback method.

As far as I remember, forwarding of incoming calls to GTalk isn't new, this has been available via Gizmo for at least a year. Now that Google's acquired Gizmo it's quite natural to offer this feature within GMail/GTalk web interface.

Yes, it would be nice to have a Jabber -> SIP interface but is it consistent with Sipsorcery approach? Sipsorcery has nothing to do with media path... Let's see what Aaron has to say about it.

i am not an expert on VOIP protocols but i do believe that jabber and SIP interconnection is possible without touching the media path. with the appropriate signaling translation that audio should be able to go direct. of course it is possible google has taken steps to prevent this.

This would be really sweet! Any chance of getting this? I'm surprised that I've not seen many people asking for this.
My callbacks seem to fail often...

It's in the pipeline, see http://sipsorcery.wordpress.com/2010/11 ... -via-xmpp/.

I saw a post on dslreports.com that pbxes.org now have Google Voice trunks via XMPP so that's another option.
