Codec information on CDR

Post by wilbert » Wed Jan 18, 2012 3:26 pm

Hi,

CDR information under Calls menu is quite good but there's one important thing missing for quality management. Could you please include Codec information? Some times I have problems with VoIP quality and in order to narrow the issue Codec selected per call is critical.

Thanks in advance!

My understanding is that SS is codec ignorant as it does not involve a media server but I could be wrong.
ISP: Telecube ADSL2+, $79 for 250GB (bundled with phone) on regional Telstra exchange
VSPs: MyNetFone, Telecube, Maxotel, Freshtel and others via SIPSorcery
Hardware: Asus DSL-AC68U + Siemens Gigaset A580IP and Yealink T22P.

The sipsorcery server does see the SDP (Session Description Protocol) payloads in the INVITE request and responses. The SDP is how the SIP devices on the call negotiate the codec. But apart from that the sipsorcery server would be only making an educated guess about which codec the end points decided to go with and even then there are lots of other things like network conditions and latency that can affect call quality.
