Voxalot migration

Post by dhakel » Mon Dec 12, 2011 3:21 am

Guys

I have been using voxalot and had 3 different accounts each terminating on a Linksys SPA-3102 (different family members). Basically they would call each other and one of the boxes was also configured with regular PSTN services

Now, to accomplish this - do I need 3 different SIP sorcery accounts or just one? The Linksys boxes are in different countries and need to call each other mostly

Thank you

Just one SS account is enough. SS allows multiple (I think unlimited) devices to bind. Also you can register with unlimited SIP providers.

I too am a ex-Voxalot user, very pleased with capabilities of SS.

So can you briefly explain it to me how it would work? With voxalot, I called from one number to another and it would ring. How would I configure everything up with SS with a single number? How will a number like 4325503 call another device with the same number 4325503?

With each Voxalot account you got one SIP account you could connect your device(s) to, in your example the SIP account username would be 4325503. With sipsorcery there is no limitation on the number of SIP accounts you can have on a single sipsorcery service. So for example you could create SIP accounts with usernames 4325503, 4325504 and 4325505 and then set up your dial plan so that whenever you dialled any of those numbers the call was forwarded to the respective device(s) registered on that account.

Great!
The only difference between Premium and professional seems to be the support type. Otherwise both accounts seem to support multiple SIP providers. I'm guessing I can put in 2 outgoing providers like Callcentric & Iconnecthere on each SIP account

Any features you found missing in SS which were in Voxalot?

Thanks for all your help! $35 seems a great deal since that's roughly what I was paying for 3 accounts at Voxalot

U can put in any number of outgoing SIP providers! Even register with unlimited ones that provide DIDs (e.g. SipGate)

Only one feature missing is a smartphone friendly WebCallback address book. Aaron promised this is coming soon to SS.

I think we need to know what the milkfish gets from voxalot and vice versa.
For this, you may use tcpdump on the shell of your dd-wrt. Make sure
you filter for SIP messages only, as otherwise you may overrun the memory.
