TLS to unblock VoIP?

Post by funxlab » Wed Nov 07, 2012 8:38 pm

Hi,
I am in UAE where VoIP is blocked and calling back home is quite expensive. The only inexpensive way is calling VoIP to VoIP. I am wondering if that is possible using SIPSorcery via TLS? Do I still need to use VPN?
Any way to use a trial before buying a full working account?

Regards.
Jim.

You can try calling tomusic@sipsorcery.com over TLS from your location and if you get audio you'll know SIP over TLS could be a solution for you. If your SIP softphone doesn't let you choose the SIP transport you can usually do it in the SIP address as tomusic@sipsorcery.com;tranpsort=tls.

Hi Aaron,
Is it working now? I tried last time months back but with no success. I am in UAE where VoIP is blocked by local provider, don't know how to overcome this without using VPN.

Yes the TLS ports on the sipsorcery server are working.

You can check if you can access them from your network by using your computer:

telnet 67.222.131.147 5061

and/or

telnet 67.222.131.147 9712

If you get anything other than a timeout prompt it means you can connect.

In the Bria settings you should find an option for Transport Type where the options are UDP, TCP and TLS. You need to set it to TLS.

Aaron,
If you see I have already set it to TLS in 2nd image (on right side, 3rd snapshot). I managed to login using both Bria and Media5 client for Android but after some time, I get failed to register notification, but then again client tries and it registers.
SS is only hope I guess for me in UAE where VoIP is blocked.

I missed that screenshot.

Try changing the Domain value back to sipsorcery.com. With TLS the client will normally validate that the certificate name matches the server address. In this case the certificate name is *.sipsorcery.com which means the Bria could be rejecting the registration since 67.222.131.147 does not match *.sipsorcery.com.

Try using this VPN service http://www.vpnfaqs.com/2015/03/using-vp ... lock-voip/ it is my VPN provider when i was in Dubai. I managed to unblock VOIP services freely and any other blocked site after connecting to different European servers.
