Asterisk Media Bypass

Post by markhendryh » Sat Oct 24, 2015 7:52 am

Hi,

Using asterisk 11.2 certified or asterisk 11.6 can we achieve media to flow between the peers rather than the asterisk core across all the NAT conditions.

Tried directrtpsetup=yes and auto_force_rport and auto-comedia, it is not working out. Appreciate some help here.

OR

Any way to achieve media flow between peers across NAT?

Regards,

Mark

You'd be better off asking on one of the dedicated Asterisk forums or mailing lists.

NAT is always tricky to deal with and trying to get media flowing between two SIP peers on private IP addresses will probably fail more than it succeeds. When I ran an Asterisk server I always worked with the approach that it was better to keep the call media on the Asterisk server and deal with any latency or quality issues rather than try and move the media off the server and deal with one way or no audio issues.

Also the rport setting you mention will not affect the call media path it's SIP signalling path setting.
