P-src-ip (for Betamax users)

Getting started with the SIP Sorcery

P-src-ip (for Betamax users)

Postby Aaron » Fri Dec 07, 2007 5:37 am

I registered for a voxalot account and sent a call to the blueface SIP servers to see if there were any special SIP headers setting IP addresses. It turns out there is with that header being:

P-src-ip: 213.200.94.182

I'll see about adding that header to calls that are forwarded to the following servers:

voipbuster, voipcheap, voipstunt

I have no idea whether Betamax accept that header universally or whether only for Voxalot but it's easy enough to add it so I'll do that.

Incidentally my 3 accounts for the above servers have all connected fine each time I have used them through the sipswitch. I only use them for the very occassional test call though so would never hit the 300 minute limit.

I sure hope everyone using these Betamax services is managing to save a lot with their 300 minutes per month! Seems like a lot of work around the place to get calls through and work around the Betamax usage policy. 300 minutes to most of the desitnations covered by Betamax will cost a grand total of €3. It would have been more efficient on my time for me to offer 300 minutes per month for sipswitch users through Blueface than it has been troubleshooting Betamax. Then again I get the feeling most people are getting more than 300 minutes from the Betamax services....

Aaron,

thanks for doing this!

BTW its 300 per week(not month)

unfortunately the betamax services that include free destinations that could really make a difference(turkey, south africa, etc.) do not allow any free calls via SIP; only via callback or through the branded softphones. although you can make paid SIP calls.

my suspicion has been that there are a lot of people using betamax only for the first 60 minutes that are free without the 10 euro and like to do 'no payment ever phoning.'

i use betamax quite a bit but unfortunately since nearly all my friends in the free countries I either have to call on cell phones or they have voip numbers. so i really get very little advantage from the free calls. i already have unlimited calling in US so it does not help that either. but i use because betamax also has some of the best paid rate for cell phones.

thanks again. mysipswitch is the best VOIP service out there.

The P-src-ip header will be used for the three servers above on all outgoing or forwarded calls now. The ip address that the header will use is the one of the first contact that the owner of the call has registered with teh sipsiwtch. If there are no current registrations the header will not be applied.

I can't tell if it helps or not since my calls don't get rejected but perhaps someone with calls that do can test.

Aaron

Thanks, The Fug.

Dear all,
Isn't possible to implement it in the dialplan in a way the user can add it himself? As you know there are lots of Betamax providers which are (for the moment) not covered by mysipswitch. Have to say however that I never had any problem exeeding the FUP with Betamax providers when using mysipswitch. regards, Billy

Hi Billy the Bear,

It would be possible, although it would make the SwitchCall command have yet another option, however I can't think of a specific need to allow customisation of that header?

If there are new Betamax services or ones missing we can add the server name to the list and get the header included that way.

Regards,

Aaron
